MeaningFin started with a simple, recurring problem: getting a text, a comment, or a TikTok caption with a string of letters like “YN,” “HML,” or “BTA” — and having no idea what it meant.
I’m Muhammad Arslan, the person behind MeaningFin. I’ve spent the last 4 years writing content professionally, and along the way I noticed the same thing kept happening: search results for slang and abbreviations were either outdated, contradicted each other, or gave a single definition when the real answer depended entirely on context — the platform, the conversation, the generation using it. I started keeping my own notes on these terms, cross-checking them against how they were actually being used on TikTok, in group chats, and in fanfiction communities, and MeaningFin grew out of those notes.
What we do
MeaningFin explains word meanings, name meanings, abbreviations, slang, and symbols in plain language. Every entry is built around one question: if someone genuinely doesn’t know what a term means, what do they actually need to be told? That usually means:
- The most common meaning first, with no runaround
- The other meanings that exist, so you’re not misled if the first one doesn’t fit
- Real context for how the term shows up differently across texting, TikTok, Snapchat, and other platforms
How we research each entry
We don’t publish a definition just because it appears elsewhere online. Before an entry goes live, we check how a term is actually used in current conversations and posts, note where meanings diverge by platform or community, and flag terms that are culturally or contextually sensitive rather than treating every abbreviation as neutral slang. Articles are reviewed and updated when usage shifts — language changes fast, and a definition that was accurate six months ago isn’t always accurate today.
Who’s behind MeaningFin
MeaningFin is written and maintained by me, Muhammad Arslan. I’ve been writing content professionally for 4 years, and I run this site on my own — every article, edit, and fact-check goes through me directly.
My interest in this space started with something small: I kept noticing how short abbreviations and one-word slang terms — things like “YN” or “BTA” — carried completely different meanings depending on where you saw them, and most explanations online didn’t bother separating those contexts. That gap is what pushed me to start documenting these terms properly, and it’s still what MeaningFin is built around today.
You can reach me directly at umairsaifii03@gmail.com — I read and respond to messages personally, including corrections, term suggestions, and questions about anything published on the site.
Our commitment
MeaningFin is a work in progress, the same way language itself is. If you spot something outdated, incomplete, or wrong, tell us — we’d rather fix it than leave it. Thanks for stopping by.
